If you say that Dakota Fanning is talented, you obviously haven’t seen her little sister’s acting.
Dakota ‘Hollywood’s Golden Child’, which I personally think is her being lucky, being at the right place and the right moment. She had an opportunity to appear next to some good film stars. The movies with Dakota, I’ve seen: I am Sam (with Sean Penn) Sweet Home Alabama (w/Reese Witherspoon), Trapped (w/Charlize Theron), Uptown Girls (w/Britanny Murphy), Man on Fire (w/Denzel Washington), War of the Worlds (w/Tom Cruise), Hide and Seek (w/Robert De Niro), Charlotte’s Webb (w/Julia Roberts), Hounddog, Winged Creatures (w/Jeanne Tripplehorn), and Secret Life of Bees (w/Queen Latifah), which is like 3/4 of her filmography. My favorite is still Hide and Seek, where she played a kid with split personality. The movies she was in at the beginning of her carrier were more popular, lately she’s starring in more independent movies, which is fine, but the characters she portrays lately are average. Now she plays in Twilight, which is I would say is a step back. The Runaways, no I haven’t seen it, so I am not the one to judge. I am not even planning on watching, cause I’m not a fan of Kristen Stewart either. For me Dakota was a cute kid, but never a good actress.
Fortunately I can’t say the same thing about Elle Fanning, who’s talent made me adore her. I haven’t seen much movies with her, but I’ll never forget the amazing Phoebe in Wonderland, which in my opinion is one of five the best movies for kids, by the way. Phoebe was sweet and misterious, living in her own Wonderland (As she had Gilles de la Tourette syndrome). When I was watching it for the first time I wasn’t quit sure if I made a right choice, (I wanted to watch it for the amazing Felicity Huffman) but I did, and when I heard the quote when Phoebe sits with her friends on a roof, saying “Sometimes I get this feeling; this feeling to jump off a roof…it’s what I feel like all the time with the things I do. I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help it. It’s like being on the edge of the roof all the time.” moved me deeply. I won’t tell you why it has moved me more then any other normal human being, but It did.
And her describing her decease was touching too: “Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. It’s a beautiful name I think. I was born with it. Starting now. It’ll get worse before it gets better. My shoulders, my fingers, and imitating. Spitting. It’s a voice in your head that makes you do the opposite of what you’re supposed to. It makes you break rules. But sometimes breaking rules is good. So I like to think about it that way.”
I’ve also seen her in Because of You, Winn Dixie, another movie for kids I love :D, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Babel and some more. After that I realized that the younger Fanning is more talented then the older one.
